do you think we'll ever get a situation in the NHL like they have in the NBA, meaning the same two teams in the finals four straight years, or one guy going to eight straight finals?
Will we get it again? Probably not. I mean, there’s always going to be some consistency at the top because the best teams generally remain the best teams for at least a few years. Those teams are always going to be hovering around, making it into conference finals and Cup finals, until they get old and somebody else takes their place. But there are too many elements involved to let the same two teams get to the top for any real length of time anymore.
That being said, the NHL has had similar situations in the past, before expansion. Montreal went to the finals for ten straight seasons back in the 50s/60s, and they had players who were there for all of them. The Islanders were in five straight in the 80s, and all their stars played in all of them. It’s happened before, but I don’t think it’ll happen again.
