Regarding Tyler Seguin, have you heard anything besides what's on The NHL site? He says, "I envision hopefully having something done. They've been talking now. My agent has been talking to the team. Hopefully something will get done before camp."
Unfortunately, I haven’t heard anything significant, just that the two sides are talking. My first thought when it came out the two sides hadn’t talked all summer was that they were not going to try to sign him right now. It sort of felt to me like they were going to start the season, give it a month or two and see how the team was doing and then go from there. With the example the Islanders and Tavares set this summer, it’s crazy to me that any team would avoid contract talks with a player of Seguin’s calibre, unless they fully intended to wait and see before they decided on whether to sign him or trade him. Doesn’t make any kind of sense otherwise. That’s not a deal that easily gets done in a couple of weeks during training camp/preseason. So I don’t even know if I fully believe the two sides are actually even trying now. Why now and not then, you know? It almost seems like more of a pacifier for the fans than anything else. I guess we’ll see. Either way, I don’t think this gets to the trade deadline. I think by December, the Stars will know what they are and whether or not Seguin is their guy moving forward. It’s frustrating, but it’s a wait and see situation.
